Objectives
Upon completion of the education program, attendees will have information about the Notice of Proposed Rule Making related to proposed changes in HIPAA regulations and recent privacy and security breaches in the news, including:
- Notice of Proposed Rule Making – a review of the specific changes being proposed, and likely date of Final Rule, as well as information regarding similar efforts to add privacy protections to reproductive health services in Nevada, reflected in SB 131
- Clarification of the right to access records, including the patient’s right to ask that their electronic records be sent to a third party; also, a brief review of certain provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act and the Ciox case
- Privacy breaches involving mistakes and deliberate snooping
- Security breaches involving ransomware
