Objectives
Upon completion of the education program, attendees will have more understanding of the laws and regulations concerning:
- The HIPAA permissive disclosure for treatment purposes and when it is operative;
- The HIPAA definition of what activities are included within the term “treatment purposes”;
- The HIPAA pre-emption of state law rule;
- The state of Nevada’s laws regarding the sharing of confidential health information for treatment purposes, including special rules for mental health information; and,
- The minimum necessary rule and why disclosures for treatment purposes were specifically excluded from the HIPAA requirement to only use, access or disclose the minimum necessary to achieve the purpose of the disclosure.
